Toy Making Program

Volunteer Program:

One of the more remarkable programs at WWGVR is the volunteer toy making program.    Starting in January of each calendar year, 55 woodworkers, 25 painters and seamstresses meet weekly to make and decorate about 650 beautiful toys each year. The results are amazing toys that will be cherished for years.

Our program’s primary service recipient is St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic in Nogales, Arizona.  We also make toys that are distributed by Green Valley Fire and by the Salvation Army.

Most of the youngsters who benefit from this great program are from Mexico.  The kids travel by bus with their families from as far as six hours away and are treated by generous volunteer doctors and nursing staff for several congenital medical conditions such as hearing and visual problems, clef palates, and birth deformities.

All money and labor for the toy program is donated including a generous annual gift from the White Elephant.

How to Volunteer:
New volunteers are most welcome to join us in toy making.  Members of the Woodworkers of Green Valley Recreation who are interested are encouraged to request more information at the shop.

Painters and seamstresses are most welcome and need not be WWGVR members, however they must be members of GVR.

Donations To The Toy Program:
Donations can be made via our website here. You may also make a cash or check donation at the wood shop during our open hours.
