The club’s wood shop scanner validates a member’s GVR card and Woodworkers of GVR club membership whenever a member tries to “scan in” to use the wood shop. The scanner checks the member’s GVR card against a “current card” list that GVR provides to us every day. This scanner performs the same function as the GVR scanners at pool entrances and some recreation centers to give access.
By design, a member’s “username” on the club website and for scanning in to use the wood shop is a member’s GVR card #.
If a club member tries to scan in to the wood shop with an expired (invalid) card, the scanner will NOT allow access.
If a club member has changed their GVR card for a new card WITH a new number, their website username needs to be changed to the new GVR card # for the scanner to allow access to the wood shop. See club President or Treasurer to change your GVR #.
Here are common occurrences which will prevent a club member from using the wood shop:
- A club member who rents the same property each year (Tenant) in GV fails to have the landlord complete and SIGN a “Tenant Request” form. The member may be current in their club dues, but until they submit this form to GVR, the GVR card in their possession will remain invalid. Here’s a link to the GVR policy on Tenant Cards.
- A club member who rents a DIFFERENT property each year (Tenant) in GV fails to have the landlord complete and SIGN a “Tenant Request” form. Here’s a link to the GVR policy on Tenant Cards. The member may be current in their club dues, but until they submit this form to GVR, obtain a NEW GVR card, and contact the woodworkers club to “Change their GVR card username” on the website, they will be unable to scan into the wood shop.
- A club member who owns property (Resident) in GV sells one property (Old GVR card) and purchases new property (New GVR Card). This club member needs to contact the woodworkers club to “Change their GVR card username” on the website or else they will be unable to scan into the wood shop.
- A club member fails to renew their club membership BEFORE January 1st each year.
Important Notes: GVR issues a new GVR Card with a new GVR# anytime someone changes their Green Valley residence. This includes “Tenants” who rent a different property each year as well homeowners who buy a new property with GVR privileges. A Tenant card may only be valid for the duration of the lease or rental period (ie. Jan to Apr) as submitted on the Tenant Request form.
Currently, the ability to “Change a GVR Number” username on the website for the above situations is controlled by the President and Treasurer. It is suggested that a club member with a new GVR card with a new GVR # should contact the club President or Treasurer to have this changed.
Changing GVR cards and numbers is NOT a new issue affecting wood shop access and usage. However, the club’s ability to validate GVR cards at the shop scan-in is more precise and accurate than before.
